Parental Controls Introduction

What are Parental Controls?

Parental Controls are filters that intercept the Internet content that your users try to access when they browse. The filters analyse this content and apply browsing rules or policies to it, determining whether users can see the requested content or will instead see a “deny page”.

 

What are the Policy options available?

Telstra Online’s policies have been created to reflect the broadcasting standards systems utilized within Australia. 4 policies are available to assist users configure a policy to apply to their environment.

 

Starting Out

Starting Out policy is based around the ‘E’ category. This rating indicates material that is exempt from classification. By default this policy has been configured to stop young children from accessing all internet content apart from ‘White-listed’ or allowed sites. Selection of this policy will require management, as every website a guardian wishes a child to access will need to be added to the customizable allow list to work. 

 

Family Friendly

Family Friendly policy is based around the ‘G’ category. This rating indicates material that is suitable for all ages. For information on what categories and protocols are controlled by this policy please refer to Appendix 1 and 2.

 

Parental Guidance

Parental Guidance policy is based around the ‘PG’ category. This rating recommends parental guidance for young viewers. For information on what categories and protocols are controlled by this policy please refer to Appendix 1 and 2.

 

Adult

Adult policy is based around the ‘R’ category. This rating indicates material that is not acceptable for under 18 years of age. For information on what categories and protocols are controlled by this policy please refer to Appendix 1 and 2.
